How To Become A Basketball Coach – We Tell You How To Get It

Many basketball fans who enjoy this sport, both on and off the court, the dream of building a career as a basketball coach and being able to work in one of their great hobbies. There are many ways to become a good basketball coach, but all of them involve obtaining a coach’s degree that proves that you are prepared to train other young players.

There are four different levels of training in which students are taught, both the most tactical and practical part of basketball and the most directive and leadership aspects that every good coach should know. These courses are taught in the Regional Basketball Federations and the Spanish Basketball Federation and their total duration –if you want to complete the “coach career” – is about three years. After passing all these levels, the coach acquires the necessary qualification to lead teams competing in the ACB League.

Level 0 Basketball Coach Course

Achieving this certificate can teach basic basketball classes focused on the introduction and initiation of this sport through basic exercises and games. Both the Regional Federations and basketball clubs offer these types of courses from time to time, which usually lasts about 60 hours.

To access one of these courses, two requirements must be met:

  • Having 16 years of age
  • Be graduated from ESO or equivalent.

Level 1 Basketball Coach Course

This course is aimed at all those who want to train as a base basketballmini – basketball, and basketball coach at the school competition level. As in Level 0, these courses can also be called by the Regional and Provincial Federations and by the different clubs. And to access it, it is not necessary to have passed Level 0 but to meet certain requirements:

  • Be 16 years old.
  • I have obtained a school graduateESO, or equivalent.

Level 2 Basketball Coach Course

With this mid-level course, the coach is ready to train older players and lead teams from all provincial and regional categories. The Regional and Provincial Basketball Federations also teach this course from time to time, and the requirements to access are more demanding:

  • Be 18 years old.
  • Be graduated from ESO or equivalent.
  • Possess the Level 1 Basketball Coach Title.

Level 3 Basketball Coach Superior License

The Level 3 Higher License is the highest official degree. This time it is the Spanish Basketball Federation itself that teaches this course, and it is credited that the person meets the requirements to lead professional teams at the EBA League or ACB League level. It has a duration of about 750 total hours, of which 200 correspond to sports practices in clubs and 75 to the final project.

To access these courses, it is necessary to meet the following requirements:

  • Be over 18 years old.
  • Have the Level 2 qualification.
